“(A New Athens) is their best album in a decade…Let
them back into your heart” 5/5 News Of The World
CIA Recordings are pleased to announce the release of a
Bluetones single “Golden Soul” in November 2010. The
single is taken from the acclaimed album “A New Athens”.
"A New Athens”, released in May 2010, marked the first
new Bluetones release since their critically acclaimed
eponymous album in the autumn of 2006. The band have
been busy in the intervening period, having successfully
toured their platinum selling “Expecting To Fly” album
in late 2008/early 2009 to sell-out audiences as well as
releasing solo records and collaborating on other
musical ventures, including composing the music for
David Walliams' debut children's audiobook 'The Boy In
The Dress' and it's follow up 'Mr. Stink'.
“A New Athens” is The Bluetones 6th studio album and was
produced by Gordon Mills. It features guest appearances
from Imogen Andrews, ex-Mohair keyboard whizzkid Alex
Richards and, perhaps more surprising, television actor
Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Snuffbox, The Mighty Boosh)
who provides backing vocals and enthusiastic handclaps
on two of the records 11 tracks.
The record itself, though filled to the brim with the
band's trademark ear for melody and left-field sounding
harmonies does mark something of a sonic departure. As a
whole, the album is perhaps darker sounding than
anything they have released before, yet at the same time
there is a definite air of playfulness within the
tracks. As if the band are more comfortable with
themselves and their craft than they have been before.
A single “Golden Soul” is released through through CIA
Recordings on the 22nd November 2010. The album “A New
Athens” is out now.
The Bluetones classic ‘Sleazy Bed Track’ was recently
included on the soundtrack to ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The
World’ – the critically acclaimed new film from Edgar
Wright (Shaun Of the Dead, Hot Fuzz). Edgar directed
several early Bluetones videos.
